At the end of the degree program, students must complete a thesis and pass the final exam. When writing their thesis, students carry out independent engineering work under the guidance of a departmental supervisor or, in some cases, an industry consultant. The thesis and final exam are subject to faculty regulations.

Our department primarily recommends topics in English to mechanical engineering students specialising in Process Engineering and master’s students specialising in Modelling (Fluid Spec.), but the topics are open to all mechanical engineering students. Students writing their final thesis with us must register for the department-organised course in the Neptun System.

The HDR Department’s topics are available here: https://www.hds.bme.hu/oktatas/feladatkiirasok/.  You must contact the supervisor listed next to the assignment by email or in person to discuss whether the assignment is available, whether you have the necessary qualifications, etc. If the supervisor agrees to work with you, the assignment selection is considered final. The deadline for selecting a topic is always the last day of the current semester’s registration period. Students work independently on their assignments throughout the semester, consulting regularly with their supervisor and working according to their own schedule. The deadline for submitting the final paper is always the last day of the semester. The final paper must be submitted electronically via Neptun System; the course coordinator will inform students about the details. The Final Thesis (MSc) is a two-semester course (semesters A and B). At the end of the “A” course, students must give a 10-minute presentation on the work they have completed so far to check their progress.

Students enrolled in the Process Engineering BSc and Modelling MSc (Fluid Spec.) degree programs take their final exams at the Department of Fluid Mechanics. Further information available here: https://www.ara.bme.hu/en/education/final-exams.
